<p>À proximité de Siurana et de la montagne de Prades, la Serra de Montsant s’allonge d’Est en Ouest tel un ruban de falaises sculptées. La boucle ici proposée parcourt une section Est de la Serra, au dessus de Sant Joan de Codolar, en suivant les vires supérieures des Cingles de Sant Joan. Itinéraire très accessible mais qui comporte tout de même quelques passages aériens ou pus techniques. À faire hors saison estivale de préférence, la chaleur étant déjà en mai conséquente. On voit la mer méditerranée et le village de Siurana juste en face qui vaut lui aussi le détour.</p>

<p>Se rendre à Cornudella de Montsant, au nord-ouest de Reus et Tarragona, à proximité de Siurana. De là, monter sur la mini route qui mène à l’église de l’ermite de Sant Joan de Codolar, situé au pied du versant Sud de la Serra de Monsant (route très étroite et un peu cabossée mais empruntable avec un véhicule normal).</p>

parcours

<p>1ère partie : De Sant Joan de Codolar à la Cova Santa</p>
<p>Du parking, sortir par l’ouest en suivant le GR-174. Le quitter assez vite à la 1ère petite bifurcation pour monter à droite sur une petite sente qui recoupe le GR plus loin au niveau d’un panneau qui indique le début de la boucle n°5 vers la Cova Santa.</p>
<p>Monter sur le GR qui se rapproche progressivement des falaises supérieures en obliquant vers l’Ouest. Finalement, le GR passe entre 2 parois au niveau du Grau del Tomaset pour sortir sur les replats supérieurs vallonnés.Continuer sur le GR jusqu’à la Cova Santa où une petite entrée sous un rocher donne accès à<a href="https://espeleoworld.com/c/cova-santa"> un parcours de spéléo de 200m sous terre</a>, très connu des ermites de tout temps.</p>
<p><strong>2ème partie : les vires de les Cingles de Sant Joan</strong></p>
<p>Quitter le GR devant la Coca Santa et prendre le sentier un peu plus bas qui descend dans un large replat, le Pla de Meloner et avant de remonter coté opposé, bifurquer à droite en suivant une sente qui se dirige au sud-est puis vers l’est en direction du bord des falaises sud de Montsant. Plus on avance plus le sentier se rapproche du bord et se faufile sur une large vire entre les parois inférieures et supérieures. Plus loin, les passages se rétrécissent mais sans jamais être vraiment exposé. On passe devant l’arrivée du sentier équipé du Grau dels Tres Esglaons. Poursuivre sur les sentes les plus près du bord pour passer sous la Punta de la Serra Major (évitement par le haut sur une section éboulée). On sort au bout sur la crête, fin des Cingles de Sant Joan.</p>
<p><strong>3ème partie : retour par le chemin de Liseras</strong></p>
<p>Descendre sur le versant Nord pour rejoindre plus bas le Grau del Montsant et une grosse piste cimentée. Prendre la piste qui descend vers l’Est et rapidement, bifurquer à droite pour prendre le petit sentier qui va dévaler tout le versant Sud jusqu’à retrouver le GR-174. Prendre à droite sur le GR qui parcourt une petite vire sur une formation rocheuse en forme de feston pour revenir en suivant les ondulations du relief à l’église de l’ermite de Sant Joan de Codolar.</p>

À proximité de Siurana et de la montagne de Prades, la Serra de Montsant s’allonge d’Est en Ouest tel un ruban de falaises sculptées. La boucle ici proposée parcourt une section Est de la Serra, au dessus de Sant Joan de Codolar, en suivant les vires supérieures des Cingles de Sant Joan. Itinéraire très accessible mais qui comporte tout de même quelques passages aériens ou pus techniques. À faire hors saison estivale de préférence, la chaleur étant déjà en mai conséquente. On voit la mer méditerranée et le village de Siurana juste en face qui vaut lui aussi le détour.

acces_au_site

Se rendre à Cornudella de Montsant, au nord-ouest de Reus et Tarragona, à proximité de Siurana. De là, monter sur la mini route qui mène à l’église de l’ermite de Sant Joan de Codolar, situé au pied du versant Sud de la Serra de Monsant (route très étroite et un peu cabossée mais empruntable avec un véhicule normal).

parcours

<p>1ère partie : De Sant Joan de Codolar à la Cova Santa</p>
<p>Du parking, sortir par l’ouest en suivant le GR-174. Le quitter assez vite à la 1ère petite bifurcation pour monter à droite sur une petite sente qui recoupe le GR plus loin au niveau d’un panneau qui indique le début de la boucle n°5 vers la Cova Santa.</p>
<p>Monter sur le GR qui se rapproche progressivement des falaises supérieures en obliquant vers l’Ouest. Finalement, le GR passe entre 2 parois au niveau du Grau del Tomaset pour sortir sur les replats supérieurs vallonnés.Continuer sur le GR jusqu’à la Cova Santa où une petite entrée sous un rocher donne accès à<a href="https://espeleoworld.com/c/cova-santa"> un parcours de spéléo de 200m sous terre</a>, très connu des ermites de tout temps.</p>
<p><strong>2ème partie : les vires de les Cingles de Sant Joan</strong></p>
<p>Quitter le GR devant la Coca Santa et prendre le sentier un peu plus bas qui descend dans un large replat, le Pla de Meloner et avant de remonter coté opposé, bifurquer à droite en suivant une sente qui se dirige au sud-est puis vers l’est en direction du bord des falaises sud de Montsant. Plus on avance plus le sentier se rapproche du bord et se faufile sur une large vire entre les parois inférieures et supérieures. Plus loin, les passages se rétrécissent mais sans jamais être vraiment exposé. On passe devant l’arrivée du sentier équipé du Grau dels Tres Esglaons. Poursuivre sur les sentes les plus près du bord pour passer sous la Punta de la Serra Major (évitement par le haut sur une section éboulée). On sort au bout sur la crête, fin des Cingles de Sant Joan.</p>
<p><strong>3ème partie : retour par le chemin de Liseras</strong></p>
<p>Descendre sur le versant Nord pour rejoindre plus bas le Grau del Montsant et une grosse piste cimentée. Prendre la piste qui descend vers l’Est et rapidement, bifurquer à droite pour prendre le petit sentier qui va dévaler tout le versant Sud jusqu’à retrouver le GR-174. Prendre à droite sur le GR qui parcourt une petite vire sur une formation rocheuse en forme de feston pour revenir en suivant les ondulations du relief à l’église de l’ermite de Sant Joan de Codolar.</p>
